Resumen
The widespread distribution of serialized fiction broadcast by streaming platforms inserts brands such as Netflix into digital interaction spheres through transmedia narratives (Jenkins, 2006), which expand the overall story of a series to other digital formats. However, this expansion originates in the narrative universe presented to the audience. Therefore, from a translation studies perspective, the aim of this study is to describe the intralingual translation shifts in youth terminology and phraseology in the dubbed version of the first episode of the Spanish Netflix series Élite (2018) into Latin American or "neutral" Spanish. This object of study has had a broad reach and influence among the youth audience, a community with a large presence in digital spheres. A contrastive intralingual textual analysis showed the use of three main strategies (substitution, neutralization, and euphemization), which explain how the youth terminology and phraseology making up the discourse of this fictional series are transferred to a prefabricated geographical variation. The translation shifts identified show that certain characters underwent a process of recharacterization in the dubbed version, which could influence the perception of the audience producing digital transmedia content.
