Work-Related Stress, Burnout, and Cynicism in Bank Credit Analysts’ Rotation Intention: Implications for Sustainable Development Goal 8

Ramirez-Asis E.; Flores-Albornoz J.; Velarde-Molina J.; Concepción-Lázaro R. · Contributions to Environmental Sciences and Innovative Business Technology (2024) · DOI: 10.1007/978-981-97-7202-5_18

Resumen

Work is the most time-consuming activity because the average person spends eight hours a day there. Work is the basis of people’s daily lives and, on top of that, it is also how they earn a living. Given these conditions, it is reasonable to assume that the activities of the worker and the work environment are crucial to ensuring their health and well-being. This study investigates the impact of job stress, burnout, and cynicism on the turnover intention of credit analysts in Peruvian banking institutions. A non-experimental quantitative research study was designed with a convenience sample of 416 credit analysts who were surveyed from March to June 2023. Relationships between constructs were tested using partial least squares (PLS) models. Results indicate that job stress, burnout, and cynicism positively affect turnover intention. The model moderately explains cynicism (0.638) and moderately to substantially explains turnover intention (0.709). This research contributes to the knowledge of occupational health in the financial sector by considering new factors that influence turnover intention, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8), which promotes sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
