Mamani Flores M.; Pari Quispe D. · Revista Luna Azul (2024) · DOI: 10.17151/luaz.2024.58.6

Resumen

Introduction. The water footprint is an indicator that measures the amount of water used directly (personal hygiene) or indirectly (food). Objective. To determine the water footprint of university students from the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences of the National University of Ucayali. Materials and methods. The research was explanatory and used a survey with a questionnaire applied to 280 students from different professional schools and specialisations (Initial Education, Primary, Secondary, Languages, Social Sciences and Interculturalism, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science and Natural Sciences). Results and discussion. The total average water footprint is 8097 L/day/person, taking into account the different activities carried out by the students. Food consumption accounts for an average of 7557 L/day/person, while daily habits contribute 549 L/day/person. No significant differences were found between the different specialities. Conclusion. The water footprint of students is very high and awareness campaigns should be carried out to promote responsible water use. © Universidad de Caldas.
