Variation in verb inflection: the case of the alternation of-mos and-nos in Northern Spanish (Chulucanas and Sullana, Piura); [Variação na flexão verbal: o caso da alternância de-nos e-mos no espanhol do norte (Chulucanas e Sullana, Piura)]

Resumen

The research is justified, above all, by the lack of studies that explain why and when the alternation between-mos and-nos occurs in the inflection of plural verbs in Northern Spanish, despite the fact that it is one of the morphosyntactic features that characterizes the variety (Pérez, 2004; Arrizabalaga, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2017, 2020). The objective is to determine the distribution and behavior of the alternating forms-nos and-mos in the Piuran Spanish of Chulucanas and Sullana in relation to internal (mode, tense and aspect in which the target verb is conjugated and location of the tonic accent) and external (age and gender) independent variables and in terms of their use and disuse. The study is quantitative, descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional. First, it is concluded that the older the speaker, the greater the probability that the variation will appear. Second, males are more likely to use indistinct usage. Third, indistinct use occurs in the conditional indicative, preterite imperfect indicative, future subjunctive and preterite imperfect subjunctive. Finally, alternation occurs in verbs that have person and number marking distantly. © Los autores.
