Resumen

Introduction: The anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG avidity test has proven to be an extremely valuable diagnostic tool in the context of gestational toxoplasmosis. Objective: To evaluate the usefulness of the anti-Toxoplasma IgG avidity method in pregnant women with positive IgM. Methodology: The study was descriptive and cross-sectional between July-December 2022. The sample consisted of 118 pregnant women aged 18-40, with positive (+) anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgM results. As a data collection instrument, a questionnaire on sociodemographic information was applied and venous blood extraction was performed without anticoagulant to determine the serological of anti-Toxoplasma IgM antibodies, IgG antibodies and avidity of anti-Toxoplasma IgG, for all using kit Wiener. Data were stored in Microsoft Excel and percentages and means were calculated. Results: 81.36% had positive IgM-antiToxoplasma gondii antibodies (+), 5.08% doubtful IgM-antiToxoplasma, 13.56% Negative IgM-antiToxoplasma (-) and 21.19% had Positive IgG-antiToxoplasma (+), of the pregnant women with positive IgG (+) it was observed that the population whose results had IgM (-) with a mean OD of 0.112 and IgG (+) with a mean OD of 0.801 showed 42% avidity (High). When establishing the relationship between the mean OD of IgM and the percentage of IgG Avidity, it was possible to observe that the lower the OD IgM anti-Toxoplasma gondii, the higher the percentage of IgG avidity. Discussion: The routine determination of the avidity of IgG anti-T.gondii as part of the prenatal controls allows improving the timely diagnosis and proper management of gestational toxoplasmosis.
