Resumen

The scientific literature around the use of information systems in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), has allowed new and better decisions to be made based on the capacity to collect, analyze, process and publish data, which allows these institutions to be strengthened in terms of competitiveness; however, there are no known review studies that account for the current state of development, so the objective is to identify the main research trends around the use of information systems in HEIs. For this, a bibliometric analysis is designed that follows the reference items of the PRISMA statement. The main findings allow us to understand that it is a topic with significant growth, based on emerging topics such as modeling, the quality of library information systems or systems, as well as other consolidated concepts such as user satisfaction and geographic information systems. It concludes on the importance of increasing current knowledge from, on the one hand, the main research references, and, on the other hand, the leading themes at present and the near future.
