Resumen
Introduction: In recent years, ChatGPT has undergone significant advancements in the educational sector, integrating itself notably and redefining the online learning experience. This disruptive change has transformed how students interact and engage with information. Objective: To assess nursing students’ perceptions of using ChatGPT during their professional training at a public university. Methods: A quantitative approach with a non-experimental and descriptive cross-sectional design was adopted. The sample consisted of 144 students who completed the ChatGPT Usage Questionnaire, an instrument with adequate levels of reliability and content validity. Results: It was found that the overall mean obtained was 3.18, slightly higher than the mean of the 5-point Likert scale (M=3.00). Similarly, the mean of the benefits associated with using ChatGPT (M=3.30) slightly exceeded the mean of the barriers (M=3.03). Furthermore, it was observed that students in intermediate cycles had a higher mean in the dimension of ChatGPT barriers (M=3.17) compared to students in the early cycles (M=2.81), a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). Conclusions: There is a moderately favorable perception among public university nursing students regarding using ChatGPT during their professional training. Therefore, it is imperative to promote greater awareness and training on using ChatGPT effectively in professional education to maximize its benefits and facilitate its successful integration into the educational context.
