Resumen
This paper demonstrates a mathematical model for underground XLPE cable and the limitations of current international standards regarding the number of cables allowed in a single trench and explores key aspects that should be considered in future designs. The mathematical modelling improves the process from the international standards IEC 60287, 60502, and 60228. In these standards, the quantity of underground cables is two in the same trench. However, with the proposed methodology, the quantity could increase according to the necessary quantity of cables. Our findings are the equations and factors for the application of one to five circuits in the same trench and the considerations of several trenches in parallel to represent the thermal degradation and the maximum current, validated with finite element analysis for all the case study. This research article provides valuable insights into the challenges associated with medium voltage underground cable design to include in the future of the international standard to increase the cable quantity in the trench; according to the model and the validation, the accuracy of process has the following accuracy for 240mm2: 99.4850± 0.5150 %; and for 630mm2 has an accuracy of 99.3698±0.6301 %.
