Ultrasound-Based Clinical Decision Support for Pediatric Appendicitis Detection in Rural Areas with Integrated AI Assistance

Resumen

The shortage of specialized radiologists in the Andean regions of Peru poses a significant challenge, particularly in diagnosing pediatric appendicitis using ultrasound. To address this issue, a deep learning-based Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) has been developed for ultrasound image classification, capable of generating reports that enable rapid patient management and improve health outcomes. The system is designed to handle multiple pathologies beyond appendicitis, potentially extending to other abdominal conditions. © The Author(s), under exlusive liense to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
