Trends in metaverse and virtual worlds research: A systematic review of the scientific literature of the last 5 years

Aguirre Roque N.G.; Smith Corrales C.A.; Gonzales Medina M.A. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2023)

Resumen

The study performs an analysis of the scientific literature that has focused on theoretical and practical trends on metaverses and virtual worlds in the last 5 years. For this, 50 articles from different databases were collected, Ebsco (31), ProQuest (15), Scopus (2), Scielo (1), and ResearchGate (1), from 2017 to 2022. The objective of the study is to determine that the metaverse and virtual worlds are one of the most important technological changes in recent years. However, it is many years away from its full implementation in the transfer of information and the interaction of people. The argument raises an issue where the Metaverse and virtual worlds have become an alternative for knowledge transfer and communication for different sectors. Likewise, it is concluded that the research is established during successive phases of evaluation, and attracts resources such as computer applications, courses and activities to facilitate communication and interaction.
