Resumen

Introduction: Maternal health is a fundamental indicator of social well-being and the efficiency of the health system. Objective: To evaluate interannual and interdepartmental trends in maternal mortality (MM) and extreme maternal morbidity (EMM) in the Peruvian highlands during the post-pandemic period (2022-2024). Method: A quantitative, descriptive, observational study (linear trend time series analysis) of secondary data was conducted on the Peruvian Ministry of Health platform (2024). Variables were MM per 100,000 and EMM per 1,000 live births. Results: In MM (2022), Cajamarca reported the highest number of cases, 28.9% of the regional total; Ayacucho and Moquegua only 2; (2023) Cajamarca, Huánuco, and Puno accounted for 47,4% of maternal deaths, 15 fewer cases than in 2022; (2024) Cajamarca, Junín, and Puno accounted for 47.5% of the regional total; there were 14 fewer cases than in 2022; but one more case than in 2023. In MME, (2022) Junín led with 27.5% of the regional total, Puno reported no cases; (2023) Junín maintained the highest figure 22.5%; 131 more cases were reported than in 2022; (2024) Junín topped the list again with 30.3%; An increase of 181 cases was observed compared to 2023. Conclusion: MM shows interannual and interdepartmental fluctuations, with a downward trend only in Apurímac, Arequipa, and Huánuco; while MME has increased steadily, especially in Junín and Puno, highlighting the need for adjustments to public health strategies.
