Trends and challenges of frugal innovation in emerging markets: A bibliometric analysis (2009-2023)

Resumen

In recent decades, there has been a growing interest in research on frugal innovation and its impact in emerging markets, where resources are limited and constraints are significant. This study focused on reviewing the progress made in research on frugal innovation in these contexts. The method used to achieve this objective was bibliometric analysis, covering the period from 2009 to 2023. In addition, the Scopus database was used to collect 331 papers from 208 scientific journals. The results were further analyzed using Bibliometrix and the VOSviewer viewer. Relevant areas of research such as sustainable innovation, resource efficiency and adaptability to changing conditions were identified. It also highlighted cross-country collaboration, the most productive authors and topics to be further explored on frugal business models, knowledge transfer, technology integration and market strategies in emerging economies.
