TRANSDISCIPLINARY APPROACHES IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE MODERN: PERU AS A QUEST

Resumen
Significant cultural transformations, when observed without enough historical perspective, appear to be legible, coherent and transferable constructs applicable to different contexts and practices. However, cultural phenomena never are, especially when we approach their initial stages. Contemporary simplifications of modernity are excellent examples of this, whether used for their idealisation or critique. Each new state of the world would correspond to a progressive transformation of disciplines and practices, with each taking responsibility for their respective fields of knowledge. However, things are often more complex, and these transformations are closely linked to interactions between individuals, specific circumstances that spark interests, and interdisciplinary exchanges that enrich processes, making them unique along the way. Modern Peruvian architecture and its recurrent interest in the pre-Columbian past seem an excellent case to question how interdisciplinary and intergenerational dialogues have contributed to constructing a project and imagination for architectural discipline.
