TRACHEOBRONCHOPATHIA OSTEOCHONDROPLASTICA IN PERU

Franco Marin Marín D.; Cordero Tito L.K.; Matos Vasquez G.; Cordero Pinedo F.; Cruzado Villanueva C. · Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana (2026) · DOI: 10.25176/rfmh.v26i2.7760

Resumen

Tracheobronchopathia osteochondroplastica is a rare benign disease of unknown etiology, characterized by the presence of multiple cartilaginous or bony nodules in the laryngeal, tracheal, and main bronchial walls. We present the case of a pediatric patient with a tracheostomy, from the Cajamarca region, with a history of hospitalizations in the intensive care unit. She was referred to a specialized pediatric institute due to episodes of stridor and sudden-onset, progressively worsening respiratory distress. A cervicothoracic CT scan revealed subglottic stenosis, which was confirmed by videofibrobronchoscopy, showing a grade III subglottic stenosis. Histopathological examination confirmed a diagnosis of tracheopathia osteoplastica. In this case, the patient, with a history of tracheostomy and multiple hospitalizations, presented with severe subglottic stenosis confirmed by imaging and videofibrobronchoscopy. Surgical intervention and a multidisciplinary approach are essential for treatment and for improving the patient's quality of life.
