Resumen
This chapter analyzes the total productive maintenance (TPM) approach, covering its introduction, concept, origin, evolution, advantages and disadvantages, and implementation methodology. A bibliometric analysis of TPM is also performed, identifying the most significant contributions to the literature and the most influential authors and institutions in this field. In addition, a detailed case study is presented on applying TPM in a Peruvian company in the plastics sector, whose main objective is to positively impact organizational productivity through implementing preventive and autonomous maintenance practices. The results demonstrate a significant increase in production, reaching a rate of 0.72 plates per sol after adopting these maintenance strategies. This approach has allowed the elimination of wait times caused by electrical failures and improved the machine’s operational efficiency, translating into more stable and reliable performance. This study highlights the importance of TPM as a key tool for optimizing processes and maximizing profitability in industrial environments.
