Third Harmonic Content Correction Technique for DCM Boost Rectifier

De Paris V., Jr.; Tanca-Villanueva M.C.; Waltrich G.; Lazzarin T.B. · COBEP 2023 - 17th Brazilian Power Electronics Conference and SPEC 2023 - 8th IEEE Southern Power Electronics Conference, Proceedings (2023) · DOI: 10.1109/spec56436.2023.10407797

Resumen

This paper approaches single-phase boost rectifiers in discontinuous-conduction-mode (DCM) that operate only with output-voltage control. Conventional DCM boost Rectifier presents a third harmonic content in the input current, resulting in a high total harmonic distortion (THD) and decreasing the power factor (PF) of the rectifier. Several techniques with a variable duty cycle have been proposed, in which either current sensors or input voltage sensor is required to achieve a power factor correction (PFC). In this paper, a current THD control is achieved by looking at the inherent output-voltage-ripple of a single-phase rectifier, with no extra current or input voltage sensors typically required. Moreover, in addition to improving the input current, the proposed control also enhances efficiency by reducing peak and RMS current values. Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) results demonstrate THD values below 5% over a wide range of input-voltage and output power.
