Romo Román P.C.; Álvarez-García J.; del Río-Rama M.D.L.C.; Lopes R.P. · The Multidimensional Role of Water in Health and Wellness Tourism (2026) · DOI: 10.4018/979-8-3373-6137-6.ch010
Resumen
This study analyses the potential of thermal tourism in Churín, Peru, focusing on supply, demand and sustainability. The research is based on a literature review, technical visits and analysis of thermal centres registered with Mincetur. Churín has at least five thermal springs with therapeutic properties and high-quality waters, giving it strong development potential. However, limitations remain in infrastructure, accommodation, specialised management, complementary activities, and legal and land formalisation. Tourist demand is mainly from visitors from Lima, with international tourism as a complement. Sustainable development requires formalising centres, improving facilities, providing specialised services, expanding accommodation and designing integrated wellness products supported by private investment and inter-institutional coordination.
