Resumen
The evolution of pyrolysis has transformed biofuel production, offering opportunities to reduce environmental impact. This systematic review, based on 59 articles analyzed in Scopus through May 2024, evaluates pyrolysis as a method to reduce biomass and mitigate environmental effects. Pyrolysis decomposes biomass at high temperatures without oxygen to produce biofuels and reduce environmental impact. There are methods such as thermal, catalytic, slow, flash, among others, which are adjusted to the type of biomass and the objective. Temperature and residence time influence the product to be obtained. The research highlights pyrolysis as a key tool for a circular economy, capable of valorizing agricultural and municipal waste. It was concluded that its efficiency depends on the optimization of the process and the characteristics of the biomass. In addition, it was observed that pyrolysis can be integrated with other technologies, such as fast pyrolysis and microwave pyrolysis, to further improve efficiency and yield in biofuel production, although its large-scale application faces challenges such as energy efficiency and operational costs.
