THE STRATEGY OF THE LEADERS OF THE PACOPAMPA ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE IN THE NORTHERN HIGHLANDS OF PERU FROM A CEREMONIAL ARCHITECTURE PERSPECTIVE.

Seki Y.; Chocano D.M. · Estudios Latinoamericanos (2022) · DOI: 10.36447/estudios2022.v42.art5

Resumen

Recent investigations at large Formative Period sites in the northern highlands of Peru have revealed the emergence of social leaders in the late Formative Period, i.e., around 800-700 BC. In this paper, using the data from the Pacopampa archaeological site where the author has been excavating, I analyze the strategies adopted by the emerging leaders to maintain their power from the perspective of manipulating social memory, and show that the strategies of these leaders varied from region to region.
