The sounds of mystery: analysis of three crime novels in relation to classical music; [Le son du mystère: analyse de trois romans policiers en rapport avec la musique classique]

Arias J.A. · Boletin de la Academia Peruana de la Lengua (2024) · DOI: 10.46744/bapl.202402.002

Resumen

This paper has sought to analyze a new orientation of the crime novel, aimed specifically at the relationship between music and mystery. For that purpose, we have focused on the analysis of three novels published in the last decades: The Last Cantata (1998), by Philippe Delelis; The Vivaldi Enigma (2005), by Peter Harris, and The Prague Violinist (2007), by Michael Crane. They depict a series of events linked to mystery, conspiracy and secret societies, involving characters representing classical composers such as Vivaldi, Bach and Mozart. We argue that the crime narrative is constantly reinventing itself through the treatment of its themes, as well as its particular relationship with history and fiction.
