Resumen
The objective of this research was to analyse the social experience of individuals with disabilities attending Special Basic Education Centres in the school and family contexts of high-Andean rural areas, from an ecological perspective. This qualitative research used a reflective thematic analysis design, employing in-depth semi-structured interviews with 13 participants, as well as participant observation and field diary entries. The research results demonstrate that the social experience of students with disabilities in rural schools and families is based on experiences and social representations associated with deficit, incapacity, illness, benevolence, and compassion. These perceptions establish relationships of inequality, which are legitimized through interactions between these contexts.
