“The so noble city of Truxillo.” An approximation of the travellers' view of the role of Trujillo during the wars of independence

Resumen

The commemoration of the bicentennial of Peruvian independence has sought to make visible in the historiography issues not addressed, such as the role of women, the role played by the common people, the performance of the regions during the emancipatory process, etc. Continuing with these lines of research, the objective of the article is to develop an analysis of the perspective that different travelers had of Trujillo in the context of the independence wars. We seek to understand the opinion that foreigners had about trade, population, and, especially the political participation of the region during the war.
