Resumen
The study is justified by the need to understand how specialized vocabulary changes when it circulates outside expert communities. The objective is to describe the semantic variation that emerges when comparing the classic definitions of twelve chess terms from Capablanca (n.d.) with the interpretations of Peruvian university players. The research adopts a qualitative, descriptive, and comparative approach, using a lexical questionnaire applied to eight participants and contrasting their responses with the specialized technical and cognitive framework. The results show that strategic terms maintain greater conceptual stability, while tactical and positional terms present variations associated with experience, frequency of use, and individual interpretation processes. It is concluded that chess lexicon functions as a flexible system in which users adapt concepts according to their practice and level of competence, which evidences appropriation processes typical of communities in formation. © Los autores.
