Resumen
To become an undergraduate student in Peruvian universities, prospective students have to apply to them following different methods of admission. For instance in the National University of Engineering (UNI) from Lima, Peru, there are three main admission options: ordinary, direct (CEPRE) and school students (IEN) admission. In this study we show that the academic performance of students during their time of study at the university depends on the method with which they were admitted into these higher education institutions. One of our compelling findings was that there was a significant difference in the academic performance of those students that were admitted through the IEN admission against the one that followed the ordinary or CEPRE options. On the other hand, we could not observe a significant difference in the academic performance of those students that were admitted through ordinary or the CEPRE options.
