Resumen
The stratigraphic distribution of carbonate content (%CaO), total organic carbon (TOC), and pyrolysis parameters of a 277-meter section of the Muerto Formation, which was measured in the Corcobado outcrop, located in the Lancones Basin, Northwest Peru is characterized in the chapter. This is an organic-rich, calcareous sequence, with a thermal maturity in the oil window (Tmax = 455 °C and 1%Ro), which is also supported by the presence of bitumen in fractures. The authors identified an inverse relationship between %CaO and TOC, where it was observed that the highest organic enrichment (on average 2.42 wt. %) is associated with a carbonate content in the 30-40% range.
