Resumen
The study explores the mediating role of creativity in the academic performance of university students using ChatGPT. It investigates how this artificial intelligence tool improved information acquisition efficiency and language proficiency and how these skills influenced creativity and academic performance. The research adopts a quantitative explanatory approach with a non-experimental cross-sectional design. The sample is made up of 389 university students of Psychology and Advertising and Multimedia at the Universidad Católica Santa María de Arequipa, Peru. A survey is used to measure information acquisition efficiency, creativity, linguistic competence, and academic performance, and it is analysed by structural equation modelling with SmartPLS. The most important result reveals that creativity significantly mediates information acquisition efficiency and linguistic competence with academic performance. The coefficients of determination (R2) indicated that these variables explained 72.6% of the variability in academic performance, demonstrating a strong influence of creativity in this relationship. The study confirms that creativity is a crucial mediator in the impact of ChatGPT use on academic performance. It emphasises the importance of developing educational environments that foster information efficiency and linguistic competence in order to improve students' creativity and academic performance. This research underlines the relevance of integrating pedagogical strategies that enhance these key competencies, preparing students to face academic and professional challenges in an increasingly information-based world.
