Resumen
The objective was to determine whether technological, organizational and environmental factors significantly influence the information technology (IT) adoption by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It was a quantitative study with a sample of 169 SMEs. Descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis techniques were used. Based on the Technology, Organization and Environment (TOE) framework and the Diffusion of Innovation Theory (DOI), a model was developed that attempted to explain the relative influence of eight known factors. It was demonstrated that: (1) most SMEs have a basic level of IT adoption, (2) relative advantage, size of the organization and competitive pressure significantly influences IT adoption, and (3) relative advantage is the most important factor influencing IT adoption.
