The Impact of Transmission Line and Grounding System Modeling on Lightning Overvoltages

Colqui J.S.L.; Moura R.A.R.; Schroeder M.A.O.; Naupari Z.; Filho J.P. · 2022 IEEE Biennial Congress of Argentina, ARGENCON 2022 (2022) · DOI: 10.1109/argencon55245.2022.9976400

Resumen

This paper study and assesses the performance of different models of transmission lines and grounding systems on lightning overvoltages. Constant and frequency-dependent of soil electrical parameters were considered to evaluate the performance of these models. The overvoltages developed across insulator strings were simulated using the Alternative Transients Program for first stroke, considering representative lightning current waveforms. It was found that simplified models of transmission lines and grounding systems that consider constant frequency electrical ground parameters result in inaccurate responses of overvoltages in the insulator strings. According to the results, depending on the case, maximum differences of 49.3% can be found.
