The Impact of International E-Commerce on the Export Capacity of the Textile Sector in Lima, Peru

Huapaya J.C.; Castro J.G.F.; Huamán R.M. · Revista de Economia Mundial (2026) · DOI: 10.33776/euhu/rem.v73i.9192

Resumen

The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of international E-commerce factors on the export capacity of the textile and apparel sector. The study adopted a quantitative approach, which enabled an objective and systematic analysis of the data collected. A non-experimental design was used, as the study variables were not intentionally manipulated. The explanatory scope allowed for the identification and understanding of causal relationships between the variables. The sample consisted of 129 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the textile and apparel sector, identified through non-probability sampling. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) enabled the identification of the three factors relating to E-commerce and the three export capabilities. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to assess the validity and reliability of the measurement model and to evaluate the structural model. The study confirmed the structural and measurement models (GoF = 0.632) and (SRMR = 0.077). The results showed that both the global reach (GR) and the trust and security (TS) of E-commerce are fundamental factors for SMEs to have a greater presence in international markets. However, these companies still face certain obstacles in terms of their export supply capacity, mainly due to the moderate level of implementation of machinery and technology, as well as financial constraints.
