The impact of AI-assisted document redaction and editing tools on research studies of students at a private university in Northern Peru: case study

Velásquez Castillo N.A.; Tamayo Ly C.; Quiñones Negrete M.; Plasencia Latour J.E.; Diaz Flores S. · Frontiers in Education (2026) · DOI: 10.3389/feduc.2026.1813998

Resumen

University education encourages the development of rigorous scientific research, making it essential to improve redaction skills. Therefore, this research evaluates the impact of the strategic use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)—including applications such as ChatGPT, Gemini AI, Grammarly, Wordvice, Paperpal, and Quillbot—which facilitates the improvement of quality in research studies. The main objective was to determine whether the AI could significantly optimize grammar, style, coherence, and precision in the citation of previous works (APA Style). The research was semi-experimental in design, with a total sample size of 89 students organized into an Experimental Group (EG = 48) and Control Group (CG = 41). A rubric validated by expert judges was applied, with a scale of 20 points, organized by indicators. The Mann–Whitney U and the Wilcoxon tests were used for statistical analysis. Results showed that there was a significant improvement (p < 0.001) in coherence and citation in the EG. The study concluded that AI was effective at reducing redaction difficulties, optimizing the structural quality of research studies, and improving ethical competence through better citation for students at a private university in Northern Peru.
