The Holy Office and Afro-descendants in the 18th century

Gonzales Jauregui Y.M.; Gomes Di Iorio R.; Rodrigues Pinheiro L.F. · Desde el Sur (2024) · DOI: 10.21142/des-1603-2024-0046

Resumen

This article aims to analyze the inquisitorial process against Paula Molina, known as La Pan y Queso, who was prosecuted for superstitious, deceitful and boastful. The study of this case will allow us to establish ethnic networks when carrying out heirloom work. The second point to study is to question the colonialist idea that has reduced these manifestations to primitive expressions of people with an invalid culture. Finally, we will question the process of evangelization, because in spaces outside the capital a multiethnic Catholicism was preserved and practiced, with the incorporation of each cultural group, which survived persecutions, which in this case were very well directed by the Holy Office.
