The future of the music industry in the era of artificial intelligence

Apolo Valdivia P.R. · Artnodes (2022) · DOI: 10.7238/artnodes.v0i30.399485

Resumen

This article will attempt to situate in the context of non-academic music the technological journey that had proceeded several techniques relating to computer-assisted composition. For this, a brief review was performed of some concepts associated with algorithmic, generative, and procedural music, and finally of methods involving the use of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, bearing in mind its current anchoring and prospects for alternative and commercial music. Consequently, I aim to explain the upcoming route of the music industry, particularly in an era showing evidence of an increasing number of AI platforms on the market, intended to innovate in the production and distribution processes. As an example of this situation, I have considered several projects related to ambient, electronic, trip-hop, post-rock, and contemporary pop music: styles in which recent productions have gone hand-in-hand with the aforementioned technological advances.
