Resumen
This research discusses the erotic language in the first translation from Spanish to Chinese of Mario Vargas Llosa's Pantaleón y las visitadoras by Sun Jiameng and published in 1986. The main objective is to describe and analyse the sociocultural context's influence on the translation of this novel's erotic language. For this purpose, content and contrastive analysis were conducted as data production techniques, whose results indicate a censorship or reduction in the semantic load of erotic language in situations of excitement with positive connotations, compared to erotic language that employs clinical terms or whose connotation is negative. This shows that translation is a cultural product subject to changes delimited by the context, understanding the book as a social product. Such variation affects the realistic aesthetics of the source text, since the representation of the characters in a society confronted with a diatribe and a hierarchical system marked by coarse language is less marked. Likewise, changes in the characterisation of the characters through translation strategies and techniques such as omission, adaptation, generalisation and particularisation occur to suit the ideology of the People's Republic of China (PRCh).
