Resumen
The equestrian tradition of the qorilazo has developed in the province of Chumbivilcas in the southern Andean region of Peru. It has undergone a dynamic historical process constructing cultural identity. The content of this research explores how collectivities create distinctions and establish hierarchies and rules of inclusion and exclusion. Likewise, it is discussed how the national identity of Peru is based on elements of the colonial regime to impose itself on the rest of the regional and local identities. The objective of this research is to characterize the process of identity construction of the qorilazo. The methodology consisted of reviewing and analyzing historical sources and fieldwork in the province of Chumbivilcas. From the study, it is clear that the construction of the identity of the Qorilazos is intrinsically related to the participation of the inhabitants of this province in the socio-historical events that occurred in the different periods of the history of Peru and, in particular, in the events that occurred during the centuries the XIX and XX.
