Lázaro Aquino T.G. · Desde el Sur (2025) · DOI: 10.21142/des-1703-2025-0059

Resumen

Social movements constitute modes of civil society organization and political participation. This article aimed to explore the main events, demands, and consequences of local grassroots movements in Junín (2004-2024). It was developed using a qualitative approach and narrati-ve design, based on documentary information from pri-mary and secondary sources related to social movements in the Junín region. The results show that local grassroots movements in Junín are an expression of community re-sistance, struggle, and resilience in the face of a complex landscape of social inequalities, environmental conflicts, and territorial disputes. It concludes that these mobilizations demonstrate the organizational power of grassroots organizations to address challenges such as environmental pollution, access to basic services, and the defense of their collective rights. Furthermore, the cases highlight the complexity of social and environmental conflicts linked to extractive projects.
