Resumen
The planet is facing a triple environmental emergency linked to climate change, pollution and changes in biodiversity, which pose a serious threat to humanity, causing almost 9 million premature deaths per year. It is necessary to identify the tools and actors that have the scope and skills, respectively, to implement theory and practice in the evaluation, correction, control and prevention of the challenges that encompass this triple environmental emergency. Within the group of interdisciplinary actors that have addressed these environmental challenges, biologists stand out for their skills in the scientific study of living beings and the natural processes that all living beings follow, integrating interdisciplinary branches such as chemistry and physics. In this Forum, we explore the investigative role of the biologist in bioindicators of environmental health, referencing relevant examples of biologists who seek to measure the health and environmental deterioration of ecosystems through data collected in aquatic, atmospheric or soil environments, through bioindicators focused on detecting exposure, to determine adverse biological consequences, or to evaluate changes in bioremediation processes.
