Resumen
The Th1 adaptive immune response in the jejunum of alpaca pups from mothers with two body condition score was evaluated through qPCR quantification of the cytokines IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-2 and IL-12, and the transcription factors T-bet, STAT-1 and STAT-4. Jejunum samples were collected from 15 alpaca pups born to mothers with body condition score (BCS) 2 (moderately thin) (G1) and 15 alpaca pups born to mothers with BCS 3 (good body condition) (G2). Total RNA was extracted from samples and subsequently RT-PCR was performed using oligonucleotides specifically designed to detect Th1 cytokines and transcription factors. The quantification of the relative expression of detectable genes was performed by normalization with genes from newborn alpacas, using the 2−ΔΔCT method. G2 alpaca offspring showed higher expression of IFNγ, STAT-1 and STAT-4 (p<0.05), while T-bet was higher in G1 (p<0.05). TNF-α, IL2, IL12a and IL12b did not present significant differences between groups (p>0.05). The results indicate that alpaca offspring from mothers with BCS 2 and 3 (BCS between 1 and 5) show an active adaptive immune system with a Th1 profile and without significant differences in cytokines; however, the higher expression of IFNγ and its cellular signalling proteins STAT 1 and 2 in offspring from mothers with BCS 3 indicates a greater effectiveness in their cellular immune response.
