Technology Innovation with SMED, TPM and IoT to Optimize Availability in Corrugated Printing Lines

Mamani S.Y.H.; Mendez D.F.D.; Vidigal J.F.C. · Advances in Transdisciplinary Engineering (2026) · DOI: 10.3233/atde260704

Resumen

This article addresses efficiency and availability issues in a flexographic printing line, identifying setup delays and recurring equipment failures as the main causes. Current availability is 59.6%, below the industry benchmark of 90%, while Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) reaches only 45%, negatively impacting productivity. To address these issues, an integrated strategy based on Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED), and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies is proposed. A literature review and technical analysis revealed limitations such as insufficient technological integration, basic IoT implementation, and the absence of predictive maintenance and digital traceability. The proposed approach aims to increase availability and reduce downtime. Preliminary results indicate significant improvement potential and applicability in other industrial environments.
