Resumen
Population growth and the lack of a potable water and sewage system are pressing issues where the following research finds its mission in determining the technical efficiency for domestic wastewater treatment in the removal of Biochemical Oxygen Demand and Escherichia coli using artificial wetlands. The research methodology adopted a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental cross-sectional correlational design. Initially, the project focused on gathering information from databases in order to analyze and compare results of experiments conducted with the species Canna spp, Eichhornia crassipes, and Lemna minor. Additionally, values obtained from implementing a small-scale artificial wetland with the species Canna spp were examined after 24 and 48 hours of treatment. Following an analysis of the potential level of the species and the design of the wetland system, the best alternative for the Alberto Laveleau district, San Martin province, San Martin region was determined to be the Canna spp species, which achieved a removal percentage of 95.92% for Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and 99.99% for Escherichia coli.
