Resumen

In this work, we present the synthesis and characterization of the complex 5-methyl-5-phenyl-hydantoin-imidazole-copper(II) hydrate. The obtained product was characterized by IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray diffraction. The characteristic absorption bands of the functional groups present were analyzed by infrared spectroscopy, allowing the characterization of both the ligand and the complex. The thermal analysis confirmed the presence of network water in the structure of the complex. The powder X-ray pattern confirms the complex formation. The crystalline structure of the complex was determined by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The 5-methyl-5-phenyl-hydantoin-imidazole-copper(II) hydrated complex crystallizes in the monoclinic system with space group P21/c. The geometry around the Cu(II) atom is square planar. The crystalline packing is ruled by hydrogen bonds of the type O-H···O and N-H···O, where the network water molecule is involved, forming bond patterns described by the graphs R22(10) and C22(6).
