Subgrade stabilization between the Ancos and El Porvenir highways, incorporating lime and cement in the district of Santa Rosa, Ancash

Jesus Paredes Bautista E. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2025) · DOI: 10.18687/laccei2025.1.1.1858

Resumen

This study focuses on improving the subgrade stability of the highway between Ancos and El Porvenir, in the district of Santa Rosa, Áncash, by incorporating a lime and cement mixture to increase soil cohesion during the rainy season. The problem arises from the deterioration of the soil during wet seasons, which compromises the safe transit of people and vehicles. The main objective is to analyze the impact of stabilization on soil cohesion and bearing capacity, evaluating variations in the consistency limits and the California Bearing Rate (CBR). The methodology follows a quantitative and experimental approach, with laboratory tests using different percentages of lime and cement to measure changes in soil plasticity, density, and strength. Two representative soil types were selected: one sandy clayey soil and the other highly plastic. The results show that the addition of lime and cement reduces plasticity and significantly improves the CBR, especially in sandy clayey soils. However, in highly plastic soils, effectiveness is more limited, suggesting the need for complementary treatments to achieve significant improvements.
