Resumen

The present research aims to propose a wooden structural system design and assess its environmental impact for a surfers’ bungalow in Canoas, Tumbes, Peru. The lack of regulatory frameworks for hotel and tourist accommodation construction in Tumbes, coupled with issues like inefficient water usage and informal urban sprawl, present significant challenges for implementing wooden structural systems and graywater reuse. Moreover, there is a pressing need to address thermal comfort and rehabilitate deteriorating urban spaces, including landscape features. The methodology involved climate analysis, utilization of climate mapping tools for wooden construction systems, topographic surveys, and application of bioclimatic design strategies using software like AutoCAD, Revit, and 3D Sun-path. Consequently, a bungalow design was developed to ensure comfortable internal temperatures, achieving optimal thermal comfort at 17 °C, supported by a graywater reuse system employing ozone treatment and integrated landscape development. In conclusion, wood offers distinct advantages over traditional materials, promoting sustainability and employing effective bioclimatic strategies. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
