Strategic Assets of the Twenty-First Century: AI, Information, and Global Dominance

Fernandez-Garcia C.E.; Gómez Gamboa S.; Fernandez-Valdivieso L. · Contributions to International Relations (2026) · DOI: 10.1007/978-3-032-13528-5_3

Resumen

The reason for the algorithmic war conflict is a bid for world domination. The new battlefield for technological superpowers vying for global dominance of the Artificial Intelligence model that prevails in the world is the media. Traditional and digital media serve as war rooms, where strategies are planned and tactics are outlined for psychosocial operations, as well as geopolitical manipulation maneuvers that aim for the global supremacy of a technological transnational corporation. The objective of the study is to analyze the role of the media in the context of the information war, with the aim of strategically achieving global supremacy for an AI model. The research adopts a qualitative and multidisciplinary approach, combining content analysis of media narratives with case studies of key events where AI has been used as a tool for manipulating information, seeking to impose an algorithmic model as dominant, which is the result of global competition between AI. By extending the battlefield to the digital realm, AI, as a tool for algorithmic propaganda, allows large transnational corporations to manipulate public perception and influence the dynamics of content generation and dissemination, impacting public perception and creating new ethical, political, and regulatory challenges. AI is an essential factor in changing the landscape of information warfare in the mass media, which is rife with tensions surrounding the influence of rival technology empires. As generative AI continues to position itself socially as the promising ally of progress and a reflection of our ethical and social tensions, AI’s dual capacity as a tool for sustainability and information control highlights the crucial importance of AI as a product of ethical reflection on traditional conflict dynamics and as a driver of urgent debates on the governance of emerging technologies. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2026.
