Space-time variability of seasonal rainfall regimes in the Metropolitan Region of Belém

Rebelo M.S.; de Souza E.B.; Lobato R.R.C.; Gomes D.J.C. · Revista Brasileira de Geografia Fisica (2023) · DOI: 10.26848/rbgf.v16.5.p2345-2359

Resumen

Considering that precipitation is one of the meteorological variables that directly interfere in socioeconomic activities, it is essential to investigate its variability on a local and regional scale. This work presents a scientific contribution to the observational studies of the space/time patterns of the pluviometric regimes over the Metropolitan Region of Belém (RMB), encompassing seven municipalities (Belém, Ananindeua, Marituba, Benevides, Santa Bárbara, Santa Isabel and Castanhal). The in-situ data measured by the meteorological stations of Belém and Castanhal (from INMET and ANA), as well as the high spatial resolution CHIRPS and MERGE datasets (combination of station data and satellite estimates) are used. The databases cover the period from 1990 to 2018. The application of descriptive statistics showed that the annual cycle of precipitation presents seasonality very configured, with the rainy regime (Reg.CHUV) more intense occurring in the consecutive months from January to April and dry regime or less rainy (Reg.SECO) from July to November. The comparison between the measured and the estimated data indicated the relatively better quality of the MERGE in relation to the CHIRPS, mainly for the Reg.CHUV. Among the seven municipalities in the RMB, the MannKendall test showed that only Belém has a statistically significant positive trend in increasing rainfall in the Reg.CHUV. Based on composites analysis, the spatial configuration of precipitation anomalies along the RBM was evaluated, in.
