Sort ARgorithm: An Innovative AR-Based Approach to Teaching Sorting Algorithms in Higher Education

De La Piedra M.; Llatas E.; Navarrete E. · Proceedings of the 2025 IEEE 5th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies on Education and Research, ICALTER 2025 (2025) · DOI: 10.1109/icalter69698.2025.11355030

Resumen

This research proposes the development of a mobile educational application based on Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve the learning of sorting algorithms among technology students. The main challenge identified is the difficulty in understanding and visualizing algorithms such as Bubble Sort, Quick Sort, and Merge Sort due to their abstract and logical complexity. The solution combines interactive 3D simulations with AI-driven personalized feedback to foster visual, autonomous, and adaptive learning. The system integrates technologies such as Unity, AR Foundation, Blender, and Node.js, allowing students to interact with algorithm models and receive AI-driven feedback based on their performance. The project follows the Agile Scrum framework and is validated through technical benchmarking. Expected outcomes include improved conceptual understanding, higher motivation, and reduced learning time. This work contributes to inclusive and effective education, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4).
