Soil loss due to water erosion on semi-arid slopes of the Cairani-Camilaca sub basin, Perú

Tintaya F.C.; Vargas E.P.; Villegas P.T. · Idesia (2022) · DOI: 10.4067/s0718-34292022000200007

Resumen

The EUPS (Universal Soil Loss Equation) model was applied, integrated into the Geographic Information System (GIS), to determine water erosion in the Cairani-Camilaca sub-basin, which is a tributary of the Locumba river basin. Soil erosion is a silent environmental phenomenon and little valued by decision-making institutions, which in the short or medium term can put food security at risk, mainly of the high Andean communities of the region. The study determined, moderate erosion rates (10-50 t/ha/ year) in 68.56% of the study area and the identification of sensitive areas are expressed in cartographic material of erosive states.
