Resumen
Sustainable tourism faces particular challenges in contexts of structural inequality. This study examines the relationship between sociodemographic factors and the development of sustainable tourism in the regions of La Libertad and Lambayeque, Peru. Using a quantitative approach and a correlational design, a survey was conducted among 480 local residents. The results show that tourism participation is significantly associated with variables such as age, income, and occupation, highlighting young people as the most active segment, although limited by economic precariousness. Gender equity was observed in tourism demand, but not necessarily in opportunities within the sector. Relevant differences were also found in the frequency, seasonality, and social perception of tourism. The discussion suggests the need to reconfigure the sustainable tourism model from a territorial perspective, promoting public policies aimed at equity, community participation, and the diversification of tourism offerings to foster greater regional inclusion. © PASOS.
