Social responsibility with cleft lip and palate in the Amazonas region – Perú

Coronel-Zubiate F.T.; Farje Gallardo C.A.; Chávez Milla J.M.; Gonzáles Paco E. · Revista Venezolana de Gerencia (2023) · DOI: 10.52080/rvgluz.28.104.4

Resumen

In Peru, the Amazon Region faces challenges in access to specialized medical care and treatment of rare diseases, including congenital pathologies. These pathologies affect quality of life and require a comprehensive and socially responsible approach to care. People with congenital pathologies in the Amazon Region face similar barriers at the national and international level, such as limited access to care, high costs and stigmatization. The purpose was to learn about public health policies in Peru and the vision of social responsibility for the care of congenital pathologies, using the frequency of diagnosis of congenital malformations with respect to diagnoses between 2012 and 2021 in the Amazonas Region, Peru. To carry out this research, a descriptive, observational, cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out. The range of cases of congenital malformation in relation to total care ranges from 0.04% to 0.18%, being considered insignificant figures for the creation of public health policies, considering a prevalence rate of 1 case per 1000 diagnoses. The low prevalence of this pathology is the reason for the lack of interest of the state and the health community in the development of public policies to address these health problems. The implementation of congenital pathology care programs in vulnerable populations, such as the Amazon Region, is essential for the development of public policies to address these health problems.
