Resumen
Introduction: Suicide attempts, more than a health problem, constitute a global phenomenon that requires socio-health interventions, especially in adolescents on the account of the increase of the global rate in this population group. Objective: Describe the social and family determinants in adolescents with suicide attempts. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out at Ernesto Che Guevara Polyclinic in Santa Cruz del Sur, Camaguey. The research spans the period from January, 2018 to July, 2023. From a universe of 41 adolescents with suicide attempt, a sample of 22 was selected through an intentional non-probabilistic sampling. The variables age, sex, occupation, method used, problems associated with the event, factors identified prior to the suicide attempt, family functioning, and dimensions of the family functioning test were studied. Results: There was a predominance of adolescents aged from 14 to 16 years (45.4%) and females (81.6%). Consumption of psychotropic drugs was the most used method (45.4%) and depression as a factor prior to the suicide attempt was present (100%). Couple relationship was the most associated with the event (50%), as well as the fact that 59, 1% of adolescents came from dysfunctional families. The dimensions of the family functioning test showed greater impact on communication (59.1%). Conclusions: Suicide attempt is a health problem that is influenced by psychosocial and family factors. Its prevention and control represents a necessary challenge to assume in all its dimensions, where a socio-health perspective is appropriate. © (2024), (Ministerio de Salud Publica).
