Resumen
Informed by two Lima-based, Peruvian university workshops devoted to care and mutual vulnerability, this paper examines students' and others' lived experiences in memory, narration and reciprocity. Through a recounting of personal histories, in dialogue with care theory and philosophical scholarship, we observe an attraction toward a space that promotes emotive conversations about collective care and open sharing in paradoxical contrast to a site that also values competition and individuality. Creative ‘pieces’ produced by participants served as concrete expressions of their role in familial and community care chains. We find that a university can also be an institution for caring.
